How do I reinstall my Avira Antivirus product?

The following guide will help you uninstall and reinstall your product.

For proper reinstallation of your product, please proceed as follows:

DOWNLOAD THE REQUIRED FILES
  1. Avira RegistryCleaner
    Save the Avira RegistryCleaner on your desktop:
    (NOTE: Do not run the file!)


  2. Avira installation file
    Save the installation file on your desktop:
    (NOTE: Do not run the file!)

Note:
Any other product components (like Avira System Speedup for example) must be installed separately after installing Avira Antivirus Pro.

We recommend performing a manual cleanup of the previous Avira Antivirus before reinstalling the product.


CLEAN YOUR SYSTEM

1. Delete residual Avira files

Make sure that your folder options are set as follows.
Click on Start → Control Panel → Folder Options → View → Show Hidden Files and Folders → OK

Delete the following folders if they exist:
C:\Program Files\Avira
C:\ProgramData\Avira
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira

There is no action required if these folders do not exist.


2. Clean your registry

  1. Run the avira_registry_cleaner_en.exe on your desktop
  2. Click on Read Keys and confirm with OK after the scan
  3. If any keys are found, enable the control box "select all", click on Delete and confirm the next prompt with OK


3. Reset the Windows LSP

Windows XP
  1. Click on Start → Run
  2. Open the command prompt by typing cmd and press Enter
  3. Type the following command in the command line:
    netsh winsock reset
  4. Press Enter
  5. Restart your computer

Windows 7
  1. Click on Start → All Programs → Accessories
  2. Right click on "Command Prompt" and run it as administrator
  3. Type the following command in the command line:
    netsh winsock reset
  4. Press Enter
  5. Restart your computer

Windows 8
  1. Switch to the "Metro" view of Windows 8 (via the windows key on your keyboard)
  2. Right click on the background and select "All Apps"
  3. Right click on "Command Prompt" and select Run as Admin
  4. Type the following command in the command line:
    netsh winsock reset
  5. Press Enter
  6. Restart your computer

Windows 8.1
  1. Switch to the "Metro" view of Windows 8.1 (e.g. via the Windows key on your keyboard)
  2. Click on the small white arrow (at the right bottom corner)
  3. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Admin
  4. Type the following command in the command line:
    netsh winsock reset
  5. Press Enter
  6. Restart your computer

Windows 10
  1. Right click on the Windows icon in the lower left hand corner of the screen and then click on Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. Type the following command in the command line:
    netsh winsock reset
  3. Press Enter
  4. Restart your computer

REINSTALLING AVIRA
  1. Double-click on the link "Install and activate now" sent by Cleverbridge, our billing department

  2. You will be redirected to your Avira Account where you need to login with the purchase email and to create a password

  3. Click on the Info button info-symbol next to the name of the antivirus and then on Download


  4. Double-click the downloaded Avira installation file

  5. Follow the Avira setup by clicking the Accept and Install button

  6. The installation of the Avira Connect will start

  7. Subsequently the Antivirus installation will follow

  8. The successful installation of your Avira product will be displayed.

  9. Open Avira Antivirus and perform an update if necessary.

Recommendation: A higher level of security can be achieved by installing the free Avira SafeSearch Plus browser extension, Avira Browser Safety, Avira Scout, Avira Phantom VPN and the Avira Mobile Security for your Smartphone.

Sir....you have my money, but I do not have Avira Anti-Virus Pro!
I can get nowhere with your downloading procedures.
It would not accept what I think was the activation code.
It would not accept the security codes, after numerous attempts.
I even had to reset a password which I had not yet created.
Also, your instructions for downloading the Registry Cleaner and the Avira Pro installlation file don't make sense. Why not run either file? Why download them? Not that I would now. I am too unnerved by my experience so far.
I'll probably ask for my money back!

I have paid for the pro also. I have the activation code however i can not install. I have followed the install instructions and now what????? I have folders on my desktop....... and.....????? Nothing is happening and no folders are opening to anything. When I double click on the supereasy driver download file it says it can not be extracted with this program. And when I double click on the other downlaod file it saves it to dek top and that's it. Can anyone please help me???

After 2 weeks of hassle, (purchased code on 11/16) I finally have have Avira Pro properly installed on my desktop. The license says I can install on up to 3 PC's. When I try to install on my laptop it says the program is already in use. I have spent a lot of time and aggravation trying to install a simple program. I have never had this much trouble with an antivirus program.

Avira explains all you need to do - Activate your product via internet by the link in letter from Avira. They says it will be automatically updated within 3 days. If you do not want to wait you can manually upgrade your antivirus.I did just that.. I hate to wait. Actually, I think Avira is doing wrong by making such a complicated way to install the purchased product. In addition, it seems that there is no one from staff who reads the user's messages .

Well I opened Avira Free and click on HELP - Licence Management, input the licence code click Migrate now and confirmed current user and all I got was a pop-up telling me "Unable to read Control File" ... totally hopless ... I tried to install by download etc several times, including uninstalling all Avira beforehand to no avail. Even had difficulty in reinstalling Avira Free ... and all this over some 5 hours! Exceeding fristrating and disappointing. Have left feedback with Avira (as requested post uninstalling) though I doubt I'll get a response. Wonder if I'll get a refund?
