How do I perform a manual reinstallation of my Avira Antivirus product?

The described procedure should only be applied if a conventional Avira uninstallation via “Control Panel → Programs and Features/Uninstall a program” fails.

To perform successfully a manual reinstallation of your Avira Antivirus you have to perform first a cleanup of your current Avira Antivirus.

I. Clean your system

1. Delete residual Avira files

  1. Boot your Windows System in Safe Mode.

  2. Make sure that your folder options are set as follows.
    Click: Start → Control Panel → Folder Options → View → Show Hidden Files and Folders → OK

  3. Delete the following folders if they exist:
    • C:\Program Files\Avira
    • C:\ProgramData\Avira
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira
    Hint: There is no action required if these folders do not exist.

  4. Boot your Windows System in Normal Mode.

2. Clean your registry

  1. Download Avira RegistryCleaner.
  2. Run the downloaded file.
  3. Click Read Keys and confirm with OK after the scan.
  4. If any keys are found, enable the control box "select all", and click Delete.
  5. Confirm the next prompt with OK.

3. Reset the Windows LSP (Winsock)

This step is only required if your computer is running a Windows 7 operating system.

Windows 7
  1. Click Start → All Programs → Accessories.
  2. Right click "Command Prompt" and run it as administrator.
  3. Type the following command in the command line:
    netsh winsock reset
  4. Press Enter.
  5. Restart your computer.

II. Reinstall your Antivirus
  1. Log in to Avira Connect
  2. Click in the left menu panel the Subscriptions button.
  3. Search for “Antivirus” and click Install.
  4. The previously acquired Avira Antivirus package will be reinstalled, and the license will be activated automatically.

I purchased Phantom VPN Pro a few months ago and had to reinstall Windows on my laptop. Then I wanted to install the version "internet" security suite pro "as a result of my previous version of which I did not renew the subscription. I installed the new version that I was forced to download because the automatic install reports a connection error. license valid until 11/15/2018 I can not update the database.
I can not get to my.avira.com, I get a message ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR, tried with different computers. An attempt to update the data from the program always ends with a message "Update of computer by "unknown" failed. No internet connection/ No new files loaded." I have Avira PRIME paid for with activation code, and I thought I had installed correctly. I continually get the message form one or other parts of the software to update to PRO: My VPN has used it's allowance (thought it was unlimited with PRIME) Also my Software is out of date but to get it clean I have to pay more. I emailed help and no answer so far What does on have to do to get an answer

I'm trying to update my Avira Free Antivius. I keep on encountering an error. It is looking for "Avira.OE.Setup.Msi.msi" in C:\ProgramData.

It cannot install the new version, as the old version cannot be uninstalled.

I started by uninstalling Avira from Control Panel
I did delete all previous Avira folders from C:\ProgramData and c:\Program Filesx86
I ran die registry cleaner
I reset the Windows LSP
I downloaded the install file again

No joy.
